School of Journalism

In September 2004 the Press Institute established the Journalism School, which consists of a four year BA program with the goal of setting new standards in journalism education in Mongolia.
The curriculum was developed with assistance from the Danish School of Journalism and the Open Society Institute. It differs from other local schools in that it emphasizes a Western-style approach that tackles some of the challenges in the transition from a Soviet-style state controlled media system to a democratic one.
The four- year degree favors a practical approach and lays emphasis on critical thinking and strengthening multi-disciplinary discourse appropriate for an emerging democracy.
The efficiency of the education is supported by modern training facilities meeting the technical standards and the needs of the profession. Students are educated in computer and internet literacy, broadcast, radio and documentary production.
There are currently five specialist journalism teachers at the School of Journalism with interests in media development, gender representation in media, radio and broadcast training and linguistics.
